This mission statement served as our guideline as we experimented for more than 10 years with ever more complex solutions.THE SIMPLEST IS NOT ALWAYS THE BEST, BUT THE BEST IS ALWAYS SIMPLE!
Karl Watschinger, MD, had the basic idea while doing his residency in an isolation ward for infectious diseases. After the release of a patient from hospital who had been treated for one of those dreaded enteral infections caused by highly contagious germs, the patient’s room was disinfected. All linen was removed, equipment exchanged, and everything that could be moved was taken away for disinfection. Imprinted on Dr. Watschinger’s memory were the limited possibilities concerning the disinfection of the toilet, beyond doubt the place with the highest contamination risk and the longest survival time of pathogenic microbes. Initially, Dr. Watschinger experimented with magnetic mounting systems. However, the approaches to finding a solution with sufficient holding force became ever more complex.
Peter Mayr, a University of Applied Sciences graduate, was at that time an executive design engineer with the one of Central Europe’s leading sanitary accessories companies in Zell am See.
Technological innovation and simple but effective mechanical construction enabled us to develop the HYTO System consisting of only two parts: seat and lid. The deliberate exclusion of moving and cumbersome parts paved the way to the solution. The main focus was always on achieving the unrestricted possibility of cleaning the entire system.
In September 2016 the project won official recognition for the very first time and was awarded an Innovation Fund grant by the province of Salzburg.
